Orlando International Airport (MCO) sits roughly a 35-minute drive from The Watersong Residence in Davenport. It’s a straightforward run mostly on toll roads and interstate — but a few things are worth knowing before you land.

Car hire vs transfers

Car hire (our recommendation)

For a family holiday near Disney, a hire car is almost essential. The parks, Publix and days out are all a short drive away, and you’ll want the freedom to pop back for a midday pool break.

  • Book a vehicle big enough for your group and the luggage — a large SUV or minivan for a family of 12.
  • All the major rental desks are on-site at MCO, so there’s no shuttle to an off-site lot.
  • A child seat is a legal requirement for young children — reserve them in advance.

Private transfer

If you’d rather not drive at all, a pre-booked private transfer will take you door to door. It’s simpler on arrival day, but you’ll likely still want transport for the rest of the trip.

Driving on the right — what to expect

If you’re used to UK roads, driving on the right feels odd for about an hour, then becomes second nature.

  • Roads are wide, well-signed and generally quieter than the UK.
  • You can turn right on a red light after stopping, unless a sign says otherwise.
  • Speeds and distances are in miles — familiar to UK drivers.
  • Take it slowly leaving the airport; the exit is well signposted towards I-4 and Highway 192.

Tolls and SunPass

The quickest routes from MCO use toll roads, so plan for tolls before you set off.

  • Most hire cars offer an electronic tolling package (often branded SunPass or similar) added to your rental — usually the easiest option.
  • If you decline it, keep a supply of coins and dollar bills, as some booths are cash-only.
  • Your sat-nav or phone maps will route you via I-4 West and then towards Davenport.

What to expect on arrival

Watersong is a gated resort, so we’ll send you the entry details and full directions before you travel. Once you’re through the gate, the villa is easy to find.

  • Complete check-in instructions arrive ahead of your stay.
  • Consider stopping at the nearest Publix (about five minutes away) for arrival-night essentials.
  • Then it’s straight to the private south-facing pool to start the holiday.
