Self-catering makes an Orlando villa cheaper
One of the biggest savings of an Orlando villa over a hotel is the kitchen. Feeding a family of up to 12 from restaurants adds up fast; a well-stocked fridge does not. Here’s how to shop smart in Davenport.
Where to shop near the villa
Publix (~5 minutes)
The nearest Publix is about five minutes from The Watersong Residence and is our go-to. It’s clean, well-stocked and very family-friendly. Look out for their famous “Buy One Get One Free” (BOGO) deals, and grab a fresh Publix deli sub for a park-day picnic.
Walmart Supercenter
A short drive further, Walmart is the budget champion for a big weekly shop, plus non-food items — sun cream, pool floats, nappies, beach towels and cheap swimwear all under one roof.
Other handy options
- Target for a slightly more upmarket mix of groceries and homeware.
- Aldi for familiar low prices if you’d rather stick to a brand you know.
The arrival shop
You’ll land tired, so keep the first shop simple. After a ~35-minute drive from Orlando MCO, most families stop at Publix or Walmart on the way to the villa.
Arrival-night essentials:
- Breakfast basics: milk, eggs, bread, cereal, coffee, orange juice
- Easy first dinner: pasta, a jar of sauce, or a rotisserie chicken and salad
- Water and plenty of soft drinks
- Snacks for the parks and poolside
Tips for self-catering a family of 12
- Plan a few meals, not every meal. Cook breakfasts and a couple of villa dinners; eat out or grab park food the rest of the time.
- Buy in bulk. With a big group, Walmart’s larger pack sizes genuinely pay off.
- Use the kitchen fully. The villa’s kitchen is equipped for a crowd — plates, pans and gadgets for a family of 12.
- Make packed lunches. A cooler bag of Publix subs, fruit and drinks saves a fortune on in-park dining.
- Prep for pool days. Stock ice lollies, fruit and cold drinks for lazy afternoons by the private pool.
The optional welcome pack
Arriving late or simply don’t fancy shopping on day one? We can arrange an optional welcome pack so the essentials — tea, coffee, milk, bread and a few treats — are waiting for you. Just ask when you book.
